The WISC Test (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children) is an IQ test administered to children between ages 6 and 16 by school districts and psychologists. The objective of the exam is to understand whether a child is gifted, as well as to determine the student’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses. These assessments help schools make informed decisions to place students in gifted programs or Advanced Academic programs

WISC-V SUBTESTS 

Though there are twenty-one subtests to the WISC intelligence test. These WISC-V subtests are split into six main category types. In this section, we will name all the subtests and give a brief description of them.

The twenty-one subtests are as follows:

• Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI)
  • Vocabulary –definitions or meanings to the given words
  • Similarities – the skill of comparing two things and how they are related
  • Information – general verbal knowledge
  • Comprehension – the general knowledge on social situations
• Visual-Spatial Index (VSI)
  • Block Design (timed) - using two-colour blocks, students need to arrange a given pattern
  • Visual Puzzles (timed) - Identify three images that together make the given picture.
• Fluid Reasoning Index (FRI)
  • Matrix Reasoning – From the given choices, student chooses the one that fits the missing one.
  • Figure Weights (timed) – Compare the objects in the given scale, identify a relationship and choose the right option.
  • Picture Concepts – Choose two pictures that are similar from the group of pictures given.
  • Arithmetic – verbal or picture mathematic problems, based on mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Working Memory Index (WMI)
  • Digit Span – the ability to repeat a number sequence that has been read aloud in forward and back ward.
  • Picture Span – the skill of recalling picture sequence that were shown briefly
  • Letter-Number Sequencing –A mixed-up numbers and letters are read aloud then repeating them back in a particular order. Example:  Numbers first then letters or letters first then numbers.
• Processing Speed Index (PSI)
  • Coding (timed) – From the given answer key, write symbols that match a number code
  • Symbol Search (timed) - Identify specific symbols in a row of various symbols
  • Cancellation (timed) - Identify specific pictures in a group of pictures and cross them out.
